VEON supplies high-speed internet for high-speed rail link,
Urban dwellers and major tourist areas

Amsterdam, August 30, 2022: VEON Ltd. (NASDAQ: VEON, Euronext Amsterdam: VEON), a global digital operator providing converged connectivity and services, announced today that it has completed a high-speed internet access project for the high-speed train link between Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, and its second-largest city, Samarkand. The project was carried out by Beeline Uzbekistan, the digital operator of VEON in the country, in cooperation with the Uzbek Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications Development. The development also affects mobile internet access for key tourist areas, including the newly opened center “The Great Silk Road” in Samarkand, which was recently inaugurated by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Beeline Uzbekistan has ensured that rail travel to Samarkand and within the city itself residents and tourists can enjoy high-speed 4G connectivity and digital services. The operator has installed and upgraded about 40 base stations with new equipment installed in the buildings and trains of the new Tashkent-Samakand fast train service. The high-speed connection is now available for users of Beeline services on the railway, the M39 Tashkent-Samarkand highway, Samarkand International Airport, the Great Silk Road tourist center, the Imam al-Bukhari memorial complex and other major tourist locations.
