Ericsson operates Ameren’s private communications network | Panda Anku

PLANO, Texas, August 31, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today announced the delivery of its industry-leading Radio Access Network (RAN) and its role in strengthening Ameren’s private communications network. This milestone is the result of a recently signed 10-year infrastructure and services partnership agreement between Ericsson and Ameren, an investor-owned utility (IOU) headquartered in St Louis, Missouri Provision of the private communication infrastructure.

“Ameren is modernizing our network, including the establishment of a private network structure that will enable us to better serve customers. This technology means improved reliability, faster response times, network security and lower costs for customers as we combine them into a single off-the-shelf solution.” ” said Chris Vana, senior director of engineering and architecture at Ameren. “Ericsson is a market leader in mission-critical private networks and a trusted partner on our journey to modernize the communications network. We are excited about our current and future opportunities with this partnership.”

Ameren’s approach to modernizing its communications network consolidates disparate network solutions into a highly efficient communications network utilizing the 900MHz spectrum band. This is an affordable, well-spreading spectrum that not only improves operational and financial efficiencies, but enables Ameren to provide improved equipment management, enhanced monitoring and predictive analysis of assets, and deploy in-house staff to troubleshoot telecommunications issues . Ameren will also have an increased level of cyber security as there will no longer be any third parties maintaining the data and information on the network. Ameren will be well positioned and have the capacity for projected growth, expansion of clean energy resources, better management, accountability and standards-based implementations in its service territory.

“In this rapidly changing environment, utilities are looking to privatize their communications networks to improve how they monitor, control, optimize and decarbonize every aspect of their smart grid ecosystem,” he said Koustuv Ghoshal, Vice President and Head of Utilities, Energy & Industrials at Ericsson North America. “Private communications networks are enabling leading IOUs like Ameren to achieve their digital transformation goals and lower operational costs, while accelerating network decarbonization and improving connectivity for both network assets and workforce. Ericsson has a proven track record of delivering commercial communications infrastructure to both large and small utilities in North America. Leveraging our industry expertise and resources such as our utility innovation center and equipment test and verification lab, we look forward to partnering with Ameren on their journey to grid modernization.”

As part of the agreement to build the private network, Ericsson will supply Ameren with its carrier-class cloud-native dual-mode core solution to support the network with geo-redundancy and RAN solutions that can support future upgrades.

Ericsson has a long track record of providing mission-critical networking solutions to industries worldwide, including some of the largest US promissory notes and rural public utilities, helping to support critical infrastructure for people and businesses in rural and urban areas across the country. The partnership with Ameren is another of a US utility’s major private network infrastructure and services agreements in Ericsson’s growing portfolio of large-scale private network agreements with promissory notes.
