Windows also comes with many preinstalled settings that you don’t need. Many of them include programs or features that you will never use and can slow down your system. Let’s go through 10 default settings you can change on your Windows PC.

1. Disable keyloggers

  • Go to start menu and open settings.
  • Choose personalization.
  • Choose beginning from the left pane.
  • Switch off Occasionally show suggestions in Start.

8. Disable programs at startup

Bonus: Enable file extension names

Malware is a ubiquitous threat. If you’re connected to the internet, you’re exposed. Do you run new apps and files with confidence? You are putting yourself in danger.

Most PC malware is written as an executable file or .exe. Of course, not all executable files are malicious. For example, your favorite PC games run on executable files.

One important red flag to look out for is a file that masquerades as a file type but is actually an .exe file. Suppose you download concert tickets. The file may be named “concerttickets.pdf”, but if you look closely you will see that the path is actually “concerttickets.pdf.exe”.

This is a common hacker trick. Thwart their efforts by setting up your PC to display the file extension for each file next to its name. So instead of seeing Solitaire and Meeting Notes on your desktop, you see Solitaire.exe and Meeting Notes.doc.

Setting file extensions to always show is easy:
