Mission: Impossible Director Reveals Meaning Behind Dead Reckoning Titles
With the guidance of Christopher McQuarrie handling the next two installments. In a recent chat show, a Impossible Mission podcast, he revealed the meaning behind the ‘Dead Reckoning’ Title. He said:
“When I came up with the title, I knew it applied more to Part Two than Part One, which is why he finally settled on Part One and Part Two. The title for the first film was almost… a title that referred to something like a ghost protocol, it was government policy – it wasn’t government policy, it was government, what would you call it? A state emergency solution with catastrophic consequences. By the time we got to the end of Part One, that had translated into an entirely different set of circumstances appearing in Part Two and not Part One. So the word would not have been more appropriate for the title of the first part.”
