$4M Comcast Expansion Brings Internet to Northern Utah | Panda Anku

Northern Utah – Comcast announced it has completed a $4 million expansion of its intelligent, fast, and reliable fiber-optic network in Northern Utah. The expansion brings residential broadband speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps) and business speeds of up to 100 Gbps to nearly 2,000 additional homes and businesses in Kaysville, South Ogden, Bountiful and Farmington.

Since May 2019, Comcast has invested nearly $6 million in expanding its network into new areas in northern Utah. With this project and its recent expansions in Sandy, Park City and Ogden, Comcast now reaches nearly 3,500 additional homes and businesses in northern Utah. Comcast is also expanding its network in Salt Lake, Weber and Utah counties, making its network available to thousands more by 2023.

“Davis applauds Comcast’s continued investment in our community. A broadband deployment project like this strengthens workforce development and virtual education and employment,” said Lorene Kamalu, Davis County Commissioner. “A robust broadband infrastructure makes the district attractive for companies that want to locate or expand their business activities here. I am grateful for Comcast’s commitment to expanding broadband access in critical areas of Davis County.”

“Reliable broadband service is critical to Utah’s ability to grow and attract new business people and people who want to move to the state for a better quality of life,” said Stuart Adams, President of the Utah State Senate. “Comcast’s network investments ensure our community can support healthcare, education or business data and connectivity needs while keeping pace with the broader economy.”

“We live and work in Utah, and our goal is to bring innovative, reliable, and affordable broadband service to everyone in our presence,” said Chris Dunkeson, VP Technical Operations, Comcast Mountain West Region, which includes Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. “The company has contributed $416.1 million in technology and infrastructure improvements nationwide in the last three years alone.”

Notable investments over the past three years include: West Ogden, Spain’s Fork Canyon Creek area, North Salt Lake, Draper, the River Port and over 15 data center site upgrades in Utah.

In addition to its network investments, Comcast is committed to advancing digital justice in all the communities it serves. In Utah, Comcast has opened 30 new Lift Zone locations for students and adults who need access to essential resources. This initiative provides free high-speed WiFi connectivity and access to hundreds of hours of educational and digital skills information to help Utahns and site coordinators navigate online learning. Comcast also offers laptops, smart devices, and digital literacy training to better serve people in multiple lift zones.

“Thanks to dedicated community members and dedicated partners like Comcast, our state is making great strides toward digital justice,” said Liz Gabbitas, Digital Access & Education Program Manager, Utah State Library Division. “Through this type of collaboration, we will connect every Utahn.”

Xfinity Gigabit Internet service is delivered over Comcast’s fiber-rich network architecture and connections already in place in most customers’ homes.
